The 2006 Munising ride was a great success with a
overall attendance of 61!!! Even with the lack of snowfall we still had no
trouble booking Alger Falls Motel. We even over flowed into some surrounding
Motels. Over all most trails had good snow with very little grooming, which
made for some sore backs. But we as die hard riders continue to ride and
have fun.
Gathering for the 1st day we had 31 riders
waiting to hit the trail. After having some breakfast at Best Western (very
slow poor service) we broke into groups and headed for some off trail fun
and then onto Kingston Plaines. The early start found us fairly flat trails
for making good time getting to Grand Maria. Riding south from Grand Maria
to trail 88 and cutting back towards the Bear Trap we hit some nasty
washboard trails with craters at the bridge crossing. Prior to us reaching
the hotel, I decided to take an alternate route that brought me great
discomfort as I hooked a carbide on a train track crossing and bend up my
new Apex GTs left side upper and lower a-arms and twisted the left spindle.
I limped the old girl home thinking I could fix her up in the garage but
that was a no-go. Looking over the carnage it was a great pleasure to have
some beverages and socializing. You TY Riders are some of the greatest
people on earth.
At the 2nd day we decided to have everyone
meet at the Best Western to get some food in our bellies before we hit the
trail and make plans. Once again the service was terrible. We lost a few
riders to some broken parts on the prior day. Some of us decided to try to
get back to Kingston Plaines for some fun in woods and just stay off the
trails but that didn’t goes as planned, while others headed out on their own
adventure. Finally after getting to the Bear Trap for a break from the
beatings we made it to Kingston and played in big bowl of off trail jumping
and fun. The ride back was as good as the ride out and needed a dinner break
at Bear Trap. From there it was onto Alger Falls for some beverages,
socializing and damage assessment. I am starting to think the best part of a
TY ride is the gathering in the garage…. any of you that have not
attended…WOW what a great group of people!!!
The 3rd day I woke up to no sled, as I
remembered my little brother had driven up to ride my SX. So the great
people the own Alger Falls Motel, Dan and Brenda offered me their sled to
drive. Even though it was not my brand at least it was blue….LOL. It was a
Blue Polaris 600 Edge X with a M10. I was really surprised what a great
little sled it is. Once again, Thanks Dan and Brenda!!! Off to Best Western
for breakfast. You think we would have learned by now that the service was
going to be bad. …What a surprise, it still was terrible….LOL. We sat for
over an hour and our food never came….by this time it was approaching lunch
so we left. Those that did get their food headed to Gwen for some lake
racing and we told them we would try and meet up with them later. Without
food we decided to hit the trail and grab a bite to eat at the Buckhorn,
great service and good food. By this time we would never make it to Gwen and
back so we headed south from Buckhorn to find some untouched logging roads.
What a joy…not a sled track any place. We put on about 60 miles without
being on the main trail for more then 10 miles. It was getting late and we
needed to be back for the 5pm dinner reservations at Foggys and Free
Give-Away.
The Dinner and service at Foggys was great so we snuck
out to get set up for Give-Away at Alger. Even though we ran a little behind
waiting for everyone to return from dinner, the Give Away went flawless. We
had a few late dinner arrivals that missed part of the give away and for
that I am sorry.
Congratulations to Vmax John and my little brother JR
who were the Jacket winners. Rob (Gerby) and Tami won the 50/50. Once again
this year the winners decided to donate all the money to Ginas (Yama Girl)
women’s ride for Easter Seals. After the Give-Away the beverages and
socializing started to flow…and flow and flow…I am more soar and tired from
that night of laughter then from riding.
I would like to thank all of the Advertisers that
donated prizes; Yamaha USA, Maxx Performance, Rich Motorsports, Port Yamaha,
Alger Falls, Hackers Yamaha, Mukwonago Yamaha, Ulmer Racing and CB
Performance.
Special thanks to Gina for the cake and Dan for letting
me barrow his sled. I also would like to apologize, as I was so busy
thinking about the rides and Give Away that I forgot to get a group shot of
all who attended.
Please be patient until all photo Galleries load. |
