Carb Photos and Parts
by: NY_SXR700
I took photos the other day
when I took my carbs apart. Lots of questions here about what is this and that
on the carbs. I hope these can help clear up float height and slide heights as
well at jets and how to get the needle out.
This first one is where the 2.5 mm Allen screws are for access to the needles. (
a ball head Allen works best here). Remove then and weasel out the slide
assembly holder. The needle is under there with the 2 washers (don't loose
them).
The slide height adjuster looks home made because it is. Mine snapped off
while I was adjusting my slide height. I made a new one out of 1/4" tubing.
Hammered it and tapped it. Lasted 3 weeks until I put the replacement in.

If you add spacers to the SX/R your carbs will rub on your steering column. here is what it looks like. I added 2 thick washers under my rear motor mount and put spacers under the front legs of my air box (all better now). Also I replaced every Phillips head screw on my rack with Allen head screws (for $8.00 total) I left 2 in the center carb at the top where the vent line rub on the bolt heads. Left the round head Phillips in for chaffing protection.

Turn this to adjust the slide height and make all 3 even and adjust to the center carb. Be careful turning this. Mine snapped and I did not put any force on it. I think it was fractured. My height on that carb was about 1/16" higher than the other two.

if you do break it off and I hope you don't. I was able to band aid mine back together here is a better shot of it. It lasted for the entire time I used it (over 500 miles).
